Highlights from two glorious weeks of Summer in Oregon.
Cape Meares
After a night in Portland we set out for a week of oceanfront bliss and hikes through old growth forests of Cape Meares. We caught an early morning low tide that let us explore tide pools filled with starfish and cliffside caves usually submerged by ocean waves. The kids solo-kayaked the choppy waters of Cape Meares Lake remarkably well, and flooded their senses at the Tillamook County Fairgrounds. We picked wildberries and spotted wildlife. After every adventure-filled day, we returned home to Nana and Grandpa’s place to share good food, great company and many laughs.
Sunriver
A drive inland to Sunriver welcomed us with a soft landing spot for the next week. We were greeted by pine trees and a woodsey cabin with a spacious deck nestled beneath the open sky. Bike paths wove in and around forested areas and alongside the Deschutes river. Each morning we hiked gorgeous river, waterfall and lava trails. Afternoons were spent at the outdoor pool/waterpark, exploring the many bike paths, or just relaxing on the deck drawing, playing games or soaking in the hot tub beneath a canopy of stars.
